create a vcd from several avi files

I have finally started to get some anime bitorrents and would like to burn them to vcd cos my hard drive space is limited - so I have several avi files (DivX i think) and I want to either make them into mpeg1/2 files so i can burn them with k3b or encode them altogther into a vcd iso (dunno if that is possible).

I have had a play with avidemux and not had loads of sucess so any help is appreciated.

I know this can be done in Nero as easy as most school yard gymnastics but I want to do it in Linux.

I'm pretty sure any tool you get is going to do the same thing - decode them to an MPEG format (dvd players wouldn't understand DIVX or XVid), and then burn them...

I use tovid, it is a script that uses transcode and mplayer to convert any video file to mpg vcd format, it can also convert to dvd format, works pretty well. I use vcdimager to create the vcd images.

Re: create a vcd from several avi files

i used transcode to encode one avi to mpeg2 but the quality took a pretty big dive!  i sthat to be expected?

I used this command:

transcode -i input.avi -y ffmpeg -F mpeg2video -E 44100 -b 224 -fps 25 -o output.file

you try mencoder? I'm not real hip on video translation, but I've heard horror stories when dealing with transcode

Re: create a vcd from several avi files

Yeah, the quality really goes down, but that's the standard vcd format, I play my vcds on my DVD and it seems good on a 29' TV, not as good as a DVD, of course, but its better than watching in my monitor. There are other vcs formats, such as svcd and xvcd, it seems they use a higher quality, but I've never used any since my dvd player doesn't support it.
