[SOLVED: ArchBang] LiveCD with pacman?

It seems Archie was discontinued. Are there any other LiveCDs that come with pacman installed?

I use this method to install Arch since I do a lot of things that are unsupported by the installer, it is easier for me to document, I like having a full desktop and browser available while I'm installing, and it is quicker for me to get up and running. Not having to manually install pacman on the LiveCD environment would be faster and save me a lot of troubleshooting.

EDIT: Fixed link.

Every Arch-based distro should provide pacman:

Thanks, this is working well with ArchBang. Though the LiveCD itself is a little rough around the edges... neutral

Which Arch LiveCD doesn't have pacman? I often install things using just the standard installer...

oops: I'm just trying to understand. I don't see anything that talks about installation on the page you linked to. Did you accidentally link to the wrong article?

oops;

CTKArchLive has pacman, cp2ram,persistence, addons, runs in ram....download 560mb or so...can add whatever archlinux package you desire...qtfm, vlc,kdenlive,feh mirage,printer,and it acts like archlinux because it is archlinux based.

Sorry I linked the wrong page initially. Copy/paste error on my part.

I do not use the standard installation script. I do a few unsupported things and it is just faster for me to do everything manually. All you need is pacman (the article I linked above describes the basics of a manual install not using the install scripts).

I prefer installing from a LiveCD with Xorg so I can browse the web and have several terminals open side by side.

Yes, thank you, I will probably try that next time. I had heard of ArchBang in the past so that is what I tried first. It worked fine but the environment could be better and I don't think you can install packages onto the live session (though I didn't need anything extra).

Thanks all for the help.

OK, I was just wondering why you can't use the official media? It has pacman straight out and by "I often install things using just the standard installer..." I meant on the LiveCD. For a short time I was using it with a laptop whose harddrive was broken.

I suppose it's easier to have Xorg installed already and not need to download it every time, though smile

I can, it is just a bit more difficult. I can't pop open a web browser or have multiple terminals open side by side on the Arch LiveCD because it is command-line only.

If you install Xorg, you can. Or you even just install tmux or screen and have multiple terminals even easier. Whatever works for you smile
