Since the upgrade to gnome 3.2, gdm shows only a black screen with the mouse cursor as a clock.

I am using auto-login and it works. but when I log out of a session, I am greated with a black screen and the clock cursor.
I never saw the new gdm. just black screen.
Grahpic card is geforce 8300GS. but X is running I think since the mouse cursor as waiting clock

Had the same problem, solved it with:
# chage -E -1 gdm

I had the same problem and that did the trick, thanks!
If I understand correctly this disables the password expiry for user gdm. Why would that be set in the first place, is this a packaging bug?

No, it does not work.
I run the command to alter gdm's account. Still, I see the black screen and the clock cursor.

Oh, I just had another system update today (pacman -Syu), and meanwhile gnome 3.2 starts fine.
I am glad I have it back.
