Kernel slow to load [SOLVED]

When booting, the system is very slow (it takes 30 s) at the

Loading ArchLinux ........................

line. After it's done printing the dots, the rest of the boot up is fast (it gets to the "Welcome to ArchLinux" stage in 12 s).  On my last system, loading the kernel in memory didn't take that long.  Is it normal? Is there a way to make it faster? My system is up-to-date and I use the stock kernel. Ask if you need more info.

Thanks.

Re: Kernel slow to load [SOLVED]

If you're using LILO, then either switch to GRUB or add "compact" to lilo.conf and reinstall LILO.

If you're using GRUB, I haven't a clue what's going on.

Re: Kernel slow to load [SOLVED]

Thanks big_smile . I use lilo and it boot fast now with the compact option.   I wonder why my old system was booting fast without that option...

I miss your mutant snowman avatar. :?

Although, those bouncing smiley faces do a good job at distracting. I think I've managed to crack a laugh every single time I see them wink

I guess that they can be distracting...  I didn't find anything better on the avatar site it came from.

The snowman one I got it from a google image search: http://staticfree.info/graphics/fractal_snowman.png (full size)
The bouncing smileys is from an avatar site. The link was posted somewhere in the forum. Search for avatar and you'll probably found it.
