I've been reading up on the Arch Wiki about trademarks, etc. and I'd like to know, what can/can't I do when making a distro based off of Arch Linux? Are there any legal issues that I could encounter (I don't plan on selling or charging anything for this distribution)? Other things I need to know?
Any information would be quite useful ![]()

You have to ask for permission if you want to use any of the artwork, but that's pretty much it. Also don't leach off the archlinux mirrors of course.

That's why there are mostly spin-off 'distrolets' these days, only providing some configuration and a few custom packages. Servers are expensive.

I was planning on hosting my own custom packages, but would I also have to host all of the others?

Yep, that's pretty much it. Arch is a pretty stable base!

That would be the polite thing to do.

If your planning on 'just' some custom packages, why dont you setup a third party mirror. Like catalyst, linux-mainline, archlinuxfr(although thats crap) have ![]()

I had one setup for my hoard of pre-built AUR packages and such, but I took it down for now. I was planning on doing that, but I wasn't sure if it was okay to use the Arch repositories too.
That would be the polite thing to do.
I'll see what I can do, but hosting that many packages might be a bit rough on me and my home server.
