Just installed Arch + LXDE on an ancient Pentium III laptop for a customer who was unsatisfied with Windows 98/2k. System is running quite smooth, but I can't get it to connect to the internet. They supplied a USR5637 hardware-controlled USB modem, but when I try to dial out with Gnome-PPP (launched with gksu) it just says "connecting" for a split second and then tries to send the username and password without even dialing. I tested the modem with my laptop and it connects just fine, so I know it's not defective or incompatible (unless it has a problem with USB 1.x).
There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.
