New Intel driver brings substantial performance improvements.

Has anyone else noticed that the new X.org Intel driver (2.16.0) is significantly better than what preceded? Before this most recent upgrade, I couldn't even turn on 3D Compiz effects without the framerate being compromised (unless I disabled Sync to VBlank, which I was not willing to do). Now it seems like everything is running at a silky smooth 60 fps, and the framerate only begins to falter when I have, for example, 80+ terminals opened at once. That's what I consider one hell of an improvement.

no difference here... it works as good as it did before.

I notice quite smoother compositing, in my KDE setup.

The intel drivers were good enough IMO, but this improvement is warmly received. :]

Re: New Intel driver brings substantial performance improvements.

I don't know - is it X or xf86-video-intel driver but after last upgrade my tooltips are quite often for a short period time blank, especially in Chromium.
Here is my issue and picture:

Beside this everything is fine and normal.

Re: New Intel driver brings substantial performance improvements.

There has actually been a slight drop in performance on my Core i3 550 with glxgears: from 1230 fps to 1205 fps (under xfwm4 without compositing.)

I would have liked to measure with other programs but for some reason nothing would work correctly (trackmania nations, doom 3 demo) and I couldn't find another benchmarking tool.

Re: New Intel driver brings substantial performance improvements.

For me (poor i915), the performance seems more or less the same.
Anyway, latest upgrades makes my system extremly unstable, at first i pointed to the kernel 3.1.x over 3.0.x, but i was wrong, now downgrading X from 1.11.x to 1.10.x and xf86-video intel from 2.16 to 2.15 solved it (crossing fingers)
