acpi_call has removed my descrete graphics (NVidia, Alienware M11x r2)

Hi everyone,

I'm in a bit of a panic here. My new Alienware M11x r2 laptop arrived this morning, and I promptly set out to installing Arch on it. I've dual booted it with Windows 7 and everything is fine in that regard.

After installing Arch I set about working out how to get my graphics working properly. It uses NVidia Optimus with an integrated Intel graphics and a GeForce 540M.

This wiki page pointed me to this URL, which I set about following.

I did the stuff with acpi_call, and got the "It works!" message. However, this seems to have permanently disabled my GeForce card!
No longer is it listed in the BIOS, the Windows device manager or the output of "lspci -vnnn" (It was there before.) The NVidia control panel just says it can't find any device.

I'm in a bit of a tizz right now, this is a pretty expensive laptop and I'm worried that I've ruined it already.

Thanks for any help,
Fiona

I can't really see how that would happened. But you might wanna try to turn it back on:

echo '\_SB.PCI0.PEG1.GFX0.DON' > /proc/acpi/call

Re: acpi_call has removed my descrete graphics (NVidia, Alienware M11x r2)

I had this exact issue with acpi_call.
I compiled it ... and turned nvidia card off
lspci -vnnn | grep VGA
gives me intel where b4 had nvidia too

can I turn it on again?

echo '\_SB.PCI0.PEG1.GFX0.DON' > /proc/acpi/call
does NOT work, module installed,

go into windows partition and Nvidia card has disappeared there AS WELL!

The only way I could get it back again was to flash the bios.
Everything back to non-working factory state... so that's one way to rescue your laptop!
