Hi!
In my Xdefaults, I use the following to set the font for urxvt:
xft:Inconsolata:pixelsize=17:antialias=true
To set the font that i3bar (a program similar to a statusbar) uses, I pass the following however:
-xos4-terminus-medium-r-normal-*-24-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
I've been searching the web for a while now and haven't come up with a decent explanation for the difference.
A reason could be that I did not fully comprehend the syntax of "-xos4-terminus-r-..."
If anyone can give me a lead, I'd be happy to hear.

Install xorg-xfontsel and run xfontsel. Pick and configure a font to see the -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* change to e.g. -xos4-terminus-medium-r-normal-*-24-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
