Banshee can't play MP3s, other media players can

This has been driving me crazy for a few days. Goggles and Rhythmbox both work, but Banshee doesn't. (Although Banshee will play FLAC.) When I start banshee and try to play an mp3 here's the output:

From searching those errors, I think I should be missing a gsteamer plugin, but I have them all installed:

Nothing with the .mp3 extension will play. The error looks the same regardless of the file.

I tried installing Banshee from the AUR hoping that it might catch something that was missing. No luck. Do I have the correct gstreamer plugins?

Sorry for obvious comment, but, when installing Banshee from AUR, did you purge it's config files from your home folder?

I'm sure I did, but I just tried again. I uninstalled Banshee, deleted ~./config/banshee-1, then reinstalled the standard Banshee player. Is there something I missed?

I don't think it's related to that thread. He wasn't able to play MP3s with any audio player. My issue is specific to Banshee.

Which Banshee did you install from the AUR? I have Banshee-git (version 2.1.4) installed and everything works OK, including mp3.

Still doesn't work after the most recent Banshee update. Any other ideas? I'd like to avoid reinstalling Arch, but it's getting to that point.

I think you're missing gstreamer0.10-python.  I recommend using the gstreamer0.10-plugins group and then just installing everything.

I installed just gstreamer0.10-python. Unfortunately, it didn't help.

I'm pretty sure it's a problem with gstreamer. I've tried reinstalling it, but that doesn't help. There are too many dependencies to uninstall it completely before reinstalling.

I just tried removing gstreamer and all the plugins with "pacman -Rdd". After reinstalling them, Banshee still won't play anything. It used to play FLAC, but even that doesn't work anymore.

I decided to switch to Openbox from Gnome3. So in the process I completely removed Banshee and Gstreamer. Then I went through and deleted any leftover Gstreamer files from /usr/lib. After reinstalling Banshee again, everything works correctly. I still have no idea what the problem was.

I just had this same problem again! My search brought me back to this thread. This time I was able to resolve by replacing gstreamer0.10 with gstreamer0.10-git.

And today it stopped working again. I don't think anything changed. Banshee and Exaile refuse to play any type of file.

Please start a new thread.
Is there anything interesting in the logs? Start banshee from the terminal and check for relevant output.
Are we talking about the same files or are you saying that banshee doesn't play a certain group of files and plays other files just fine?
