Thank you for this great distribution, thank you for the great support, thank you for the nearly perfect wiki, and thanks to all the guys answering questions in the forum!
All of you helped me so many times without knowing, it's unbelieveable! I even don't have to ask a question myself, everything is already there!

I started fooling around with Linux with the release of O'Reilly's Running Linux 2nd ed. (1996), but only made a complete switch from Windows with Ubuntu 6.04.
Last week I decided it was time to try something new and I installed Arch on my workstation (server still runs Ubuntu). A couple of days and a lot of reading later I have a beautifully running system.

So, indeed, a big thank you to all contributors for building this great distribution, wiki etc.

I'm Daniel Rosas, I study Industrial Engineering and I'm relatively new to ArchLinux (I've been using it for about 10 months). And I've never been happier . I built the system I needed and wanted. I have all the science tools and apps that I need, custom built for my machine, it is stable, it is fast and after a while, it's very easy to maintain it

Hello Arch, I am a distro addict. So I have been dabbling in linux since trying to install LinuxPPC2000 almost 12 years ago, where I discovered the horror of getting 8 bit 600x480 Xwindow to greet me after wiping out my whole OS (on my original iMac). Then moved to YellowDog Linux, Debian, and SuSe then Ubuntu, while dabbling in Gentoo for one install just to say I did it. Never on Linux full time since the 2 reasons I need a computer (Video editing and playing WoW and some other games) wasn't possible. That is until now. Now after my 2nd attempt at installing Arch I am here! So happy to have wow in Wine and decent video editing programs I deleted my Windows (aside from Vbox for Adobe Premeire) and now I have a kick ass Arch system that boots in seconds, running wmii with artwiz fonts (been trying to get those working since the early blackbox days). Thanks for having a nearly perfect and bloatless distro!!

Posting this from freshly installed Arch Linux (in Midori, by way of E17). Loving it so far. It was a bit tricky for a while there, because this is my only means of online access, around here. But I went ahead, totally cold (i.e., new to Linux), regardless. And here I am!

Luckily, a few application names stuck with me, from various sites and searches, pre-installation. I actually used Lynx to grab some things (so as to have a "desktop" at all) from AUR, for example. That was interesting! Websites look very strange indeed that way.

A learning curve, yes, but the documentation is top notch - as is Arch in general, it would seem.

No doubt, I will make some mistakes. Perhaps I have already! But even so, I'm looking forward to discovering more about Linux, Arch in particular, and the community here as well.

I'm new arch user and I'm very happy that I switched to that distribution.
Before I was using debian but I found out that it doesn't suit all my needs.
By now Arch is perfect! Fast, reliable and have all I need.
Pacman is just amazing!

Hi everyone!

So I'm new to Arch. I read the entire Wiki (almost ) and decided to ditch Ubuntu for Arch.

I've started Linux with Debian, moved to Gentoo for quite a long time and then went to Ubuntu because I didn't have so much time to take care of my box. Now that I'm completely frustated with Ubuntu, I'm trying Arch

I started yesterday so I'm a reaaaally fresh newbie but I'm very proud to say that I successfully installed Arch on a RAID1 with GPT partitions and even though it wasn't quite esay to make it work, I managed to boot this wonderful distribution

My first impression is very positive so I might stick around for a while

Been playing with Linux since the Red Hat 4.x (think 4.1 was my first install but I'm not sure) Play with Debian and a little Ubuntu at work cause that's what everyone knows these days but been longing for something a little more customizable. Tried out Slackware for home use but I didn't like all the extra stuff it installed. Liking Arch a lot on the X86 and got a great install of Arch going. Learned a lot about how to set up a Linux system in the last couple weeks and may be needing some help down the road. Haven't posted online since BeOS went bust so I'm a little rusty on what all you might need to troubleshoot any problems I have.

Hi everyone!

I just installed Arch as a replacement for Gentoo (I love computers and linux, but I don't have enough time to love them that much). I was going to go with Debian or Fedora, but didn't because Debian wasn't getting along with my pc and Fedora's install failed like 8 times from 3 different media. So far, Arch has been great. The install went smoothly - from nothing to KDE desktop in one go, as opposed to a week for Gentoo. =P Even better, chromium and flash installed easily. Also, I love the registration question. Back to linuxing!

Hello everybody, not-so-new Blood here this time..

I have now installed Arch, and I have to say I am impressed! A lot of people kept going on about it, but now I can really see why...
Installation is fast and simple, boot is fast, pacman is wicked-quick, and whatever DE you install on top runs at lightning speed (especially compared to Ub****)!

Haven't yet run into any major issues, and the minor ones have been very easy to fix. Google is definitely my friend.

Anyway, pretty sure I'll be sticking around

Welcome mate ;-) I also just migrated, I've got one big issue: The Guys at ATI should publish their sourcecode NOW. The FOS driver is running TOO quick, but no blender/minecraft. The prop driver doubles my boot time (12->24 seconds) and messes up my logout screen but offers 3D performance... GRRRR I hate proprietary sources...

Not catalyst should be improved; the FOS driver should be improved :-)
Catalyst makes my system not boot or crash and slows it down...

Hi everyone,

my Name is Patrick, i'm experienced in some other distros (Debian, Redhat, CentOS, SuSE and for a very long time Gentoo) and now i switched to Arch.
Coming from Germany, currently living in upper Austria.
Working as IT Administrator sadly with Windows Systems (Server).
In myspare time i work with Linux and try some time BSD within KVM

So hoping to be an good member in this forum.

Hello all,

I've been using Ubuntu for a few years, more recently Debian Netinst. I've also given (B)LFS a shot. Now I am trying to turn my laptop into an encrypted archlinux machine using luks + lvm.

I joined this forum because the initrd fails to mount my luks partition. It looks like the forum has solutions already and I'll give them a shot before starting a new thread.

I'm Anders,

I've been tinkering around with Ubuntu for almost 4 years now and I wanted to move to something a bit more advanced. So far I've been impressed by the KISS structure of Arch and the flexibility of it. When I first started using Linux I fell in love and Arch has made everything I like about Linux that much better.

I'm a computer hobbyist in Nevada who just recently got into computer building, and for my first desktop I installed Arch. I hope to have my first home server built some time soon, running Arch as well.

Thanks guys for such a great project.

Hello everyone, I'm not technically a new forum member, I joined a while back but not sure when (we'll see when I post this, huh?).

Long time linux user, started life around Red Hat 4 or 5 jumped around a lot from slackware to debian to ubuntu eventually (like everyone else). I'd wanted to try arch for a long time, but could never motivate myself for the install process. I had seen Crunchbang Linux and then ArchBang. ArchBang got me interested so I installed it, but afterwards felt slightly dirty for using a pre-built arch. So I formatted, installed arch properly, installed openbox properly. And here I am, on what feels like the slimmest install I've had in a long long time.

I have to say, I like The Arch Way.
