Hi
I am new to Arch Linux, I've moved over from Ubuntu having spent a lot of time deciding between Arch and Gentoo (obviously Arch won me)
However having installed a fresh system I am having issues with the fonts and cannot seem to find a 'straight forward' guide on what to do. I guess it's down to not knowing what the actual issue is... (drivers? freetype? smoothing? config? xorg?)
So far, I've got a basic system. I installed Xorg with the proprietary nvidia drivers, and a ttf-win7-fonts package from the AUR. Then I proceeded to install Gnome3. All done via pacman of course, followed by Chromium.
In Chromium (the actual pages) everythings looks 95% okay. However the Gnome 3 Apps menu looks absolutely awful as you can see here... http://www.ahmygoddess.co.uk/ss1.png
And also the GUI element of Chromium itself is also strange http://www.ahmygoddess.co.uk/ss2.png
Oddly enough, Gnome-Terminal in the background appears fine!
A point in the right direction would be really appreciative please.
Regards
P.S. Sorry about the image manip on the screenshots, had to obfuscate my real id.

I'm new to Arch as well. Also had issue with fonts, and used this to set them up:
It's all GNU to me.

Thanks, I missed that end section.

I'm just attempting the cleartype section.
Download each TARBALL from the AUR for these 3
freetype2-cleartype libxft-cleartype cairo-cleartype
Then go into each one and do makepkg (and wait)
Once done, run pacman -U freetype2-cleartype-2.4.6-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz etc in each folder (changing the file name of course)
That should be it to install these right?

I gave up on what I was doing. I just followed the one you linked instead, and used gnome-tweak-tool to swap Canterall for Arial. And now everything looks and feels better.
Thanks

Lovely.
Just to be sure here, I am still learning Arch way, but I use yaourt for AUR packages. It works like pacman, but for AUR.
It's all GNU to me.
