[SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Hi everyone, i updated my system yesterday to the new xorg server (1.11.1-2). Everything works except for the two finger scrolling on my synaptics touchpad.
There is some info:

Kernel:  3.0.6-2 (stock)
Synaptics Touchpad driver: 1.5.0-1 (lastest)
Right side scrolling works fine, two or three finger tapping doesn't work either.

Here's my Xorg.log:

I tried commenting the evdev touchpad section in 10-evdev.conf. It's still not working, but my Xorg logfile has changed (no double detection):

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Same issue after updating :
double detection of my Synaptics Touchpad once as /dev/input/event10, once as /dev/input/mouse0.

According to the logs the event10 section seems to load correctly but /mouse0 fails on :
[    20.118] (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (/dev/input/mouse0)
[    20.118] (II) No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)

It used to work fine before the upgrade.
Next step : confirm the root cause (synaptics package probably)
edit: ABI mismatch, can't downgrade synaptics hmm

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Same thing here. I'm sure that my touchpad required two-finger-emulation due to Lenovo disabling multitouch in the touchpad firmware.

You need to make a proper description with how to reproduce and expected results. It will make the maintainers happy not to have to follow a link.

I'm having the same problem. Tried to modprobe synaptics and got a "module not found" error.

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

I have the same issue. My laptop is Acer Aspire 4530. And using the same package from the officials repos:
linux 3.0.6-2
xf86-input-synaptics 1.5.0-1
xorg-server         xorg-server-common
xorg-server 1.11.1-2

I'll add my data to the bug report.

Have you set two-finger scrolling in 10-synaptics? Also your DE may override settings, e.g. Gnome.

Yeah, already did everything, Setting Gnome not to override the setting from xorg.conf. Commenjstted the touchpad section in evdev.conf and everything else. It just doesn't work. And It worked before.

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

My touchpad stopped working completely under xorg-server 1.11.1-2 and xf86-input-synaptics 1.5.0-1:

==> /var/log/Xorg.0.log <==
[ 379.437] (**) synaptics: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: AccelFactor is now 0.147
[ 379.437] (**) ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: (accel) keeping acceleration scheme 1

[ 379.437] (**) ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: (accel) acceleration factor: 2.000
[ 379.437] (**) ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: (accel) acceleration threshold: 4
[ 379.437] (--) synaptics: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: touchpad found

[ 379.438] (II) config/udev: Adding input device PC Speaker (/dev/input/event5)
[ 379.438] (II) No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)

I don't know why the Xorg log says "No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)" when my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf file states explicitly that the driver is "synaptics":

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

I installed Arch with LXDE on a P3 laptop last week, and oddly enough two-finger scrolling still worked after updating all the xorg/xf86 stuff...

Cannot change the description anymore. So I attached the most relevant information and files to an answer under the bug report.

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

I got mine working! See the bug report! One might be able to enable 2-finger-scroll by adding

Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"

tl;dr:

Great! The new config fixes the problem with middle-click for me. I did not use two-finger-scrolling, so I can't say much about that. but one might be able to enable it with: Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"

10-synaptics.conf

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Option "TapButton1" "1"
        Option "TapButton2" "2"
        Option "TapButton3" "3"
        Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "40"
        Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinW" "8"
EndSection

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Just to say the update broke my two finger scrolling too. But I sorted it out. Turns out that you have to have the 'EmulateTwoFingerZ' (and W) as well as the 'VertTwoFingerScroll' options present in 10-synaptics.conf.

Or at least I did on my T61. smile

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

This seems fixed. I now have two-finger-middle-click and two-finger-vertical-scrolling working with these config files:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf

#
# Catch-all evdev loader for udev-based systems
# We don't simply match on any device since that also adds accelerometers
# and other devices that we don't really want to use. The list below
# matches everything but joysticks.

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "evdev pointer catchall"
        MatchIsPointer "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
        MatchIsKeyboard "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Driver "evdev"
	Option "XkbLayout" "de"
	Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
EndSection

#Section "InputClass"
# Identifier "evdev touchpad catchall"
# MatchIsTouchpad "on"
# MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
# Driver "evdev"
#EndSection

        MatchIsTablet "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

EndSection

        MatchIsTouchscreen "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Yes! Adding those lines to the 10-synaptics.conf file solved the problem.
I'll mark this thread as solved.
Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Nice find, works for me too. Though don't forget to disable the edge scrolling if you enabled that for the interim.

I'm quite sure that the new packages must disable fake multitouch emulation by default.
Fake multitouch assumes that when there is a heavy touch that it is two fingers. So it unfortunately also interprets a palm rub as a two finger scroll. This is needed for all devices that don't support multitouch natively or have it disables in firmware (like in my case and all Synaptics that don't support it post 2006 (Thinkpads went down hill ever since IBM sold it off (crippled firmwares/BIOS (parenthesis))))
