Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

Yes, it's gtk2. Downgrading to 2.24.6-2 fixed the issue.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

I can confirm this bug as well.  Downgrading gtk2 did fix it.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

My opera was crashing on exit... the debug log threw something similar --  "Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_unrealize: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed"

Reverting to gtk2-2.24.6 solved the problem.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

Instead if downgrading gtk2 you may try updating Opera to 11.52 (not yet in repo), which is working here with gtk2 2.24.7-1 (x86_64).

I did that with i686 (32 bit) - did not work - only worked again after downgrading gtk2.

Is the bug already reported in the Arch bug tracker?

The same thing happens here too. If I can help with any kind of extra info please tell me. And yes I have updated my system yesterday.
I have not tried downgrading yet.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

I tried the newest 11.52 version of Opera but the crashing still persists with gtk2-2.24.7. For the time being I am just going to run gtk2-2.24.6. smile My post got deleted in the server crash.

I am running x86_64.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

If you have disabled Opera's Gtk integration to avoid the crashes but find the default look of an unskinned Opera a little too bright because you are a fan of darker themes, then here is something that might amuse you.

Stick the following /etc/operaprefs_default.ini after the tooklkit disabling section (of you can put it directly in ~/.opera/operapres.ini) to make Opera look like it is themed after the Arch Linux sites. wink

[Interface Colors]
Background=#ecf2f5
Background Selected=#0088cc
Button=#333333
Button Dark=#3c3c3c
Button Light=#5a5a5a
Button Text=#999999
Button Very Dark=#646464
Scrollbar Background=#464646
Text=#1793d1
Text Disabled=#5a5a5a
Tooltip Background=#333333
Tooltip Text=#ffffff
UI Background=#333333
UI Font=#999999
UI Menu=#999999

Note this will only work if you have Gtk themeing switched off via the info I posted above or by manually setting opera:config#FileSelector|DialogToolkit to 4.

P.S. This is based on adjusting the opera:config#Interface Colors preferences.

You can use these settings to manually tweak Opera to match all kinds of themes. Or if you want something more powerful we also have full skins here:

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

By the way, does anyone have any thoughts on how to get the two Opera packages updated

http://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/i686/opera/
http://www.archlinux.org/packages/commu … _64/opera/

I have dropped the maintainer a couple of emails but perhaps he is away. I'd like to get them updated ASAP because Opera 11.52 includes a security fix. In, the mean time I have an updated Opera 11.52 PKGBUILD on my blog.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

opera 11.51 runs perfectly in my x86_64 machine with multilib/lib32-gtk2 2.24.7-1; seems to be a native 32 bit problem.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

The crash started happening after Opera 11.52 was released, so 11.52 was never going to fix it. The bug seems to be Gtk bug, not an Opera bug. We'll speak to the Gtk guys to be sure. In the mean time disable Gtk support in Opera as I outlined above.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

What are the chances of seeing a opera 11.53 to workaround the gtk problem? On another note, I have read that some of the devs are working on supporting gtk3. If so, will this be in the upcoming opera 12?

Opera 11.52 starts here just fine, but crashes at exit, both with and without the /etc/operaprefs_default.ini posted above (also tried removing ~/.opera, just to be sure).

only opera can get a better trace before blaming on gtk.

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

@wonder: Our plan is to provide them a small example program (including source code) that crashes with recent Gtk but not older Gtk and ask them if they think we are doing anything wrong (we don't think we are). We have the program but I don't know if we have shared it yet.

@quasifilmie 11.60+ will have Gtk themeing. here is a build that supports it and also has a work around for the Gtk 2.24.7 issue:

Re: Opera crash with the latest Gtk/Kernel upgrade?

@ruario can't you make public the trace? do you have a bug report on bugzilla?

when you say recent, do you mean the latest released or using gtk+2.24 branch? because i see some fixes there
