Boot splash with encryption?

I am having trouble getting Arch to boot with splashy it hangs and I am assuming it is because the system is encrypted. I have tried placing splashy in multiple positions under HOOKS () in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and it still hangs.

Does anyone know what could be going wrong? I followed the wiki entry exactly on multiple installs trying to get it working and it still hangs.

I am hoping to get something like this where it has the splash with "Enter passphrase" below it and then proceeds with the boot... if its not possible then I will just give up on splashy as the only thing I find ugly about the boot process is the passphrase entry.

Edit:
If I place splashy after encrypt in HOOKS I am able to enter the password then the splashy screen flickers and it starts booting as normal. Then it hangs after loading crond daemon.
