I'm trying to use this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001O841OI to connect the VGA output of my laptop to my TV. When it's all connected and I run xrandr I get this:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 800, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x 163mm
1280x800 60.2*+ 50.0
1024x768 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
640x480 59.9
VGA1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
1024x768 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
848x480 60.0
640x480 59.9
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
Depsite what it says, there is no HDMI out on my laptop.
My TV is 720p, which I understand to mean it has a resolution of 1280x720 - although, obviously, that is not listed and, presumably, that is a limitation of the connection device. Th edevice is connected to my TV via an RGB to SCART cable.
The best display I can get is a yellow and fuzzy - obviously not what I was hoping for,
Is there something I can do to get a decent, sharp colour picture? Or is it likely that the device is simply failing me?
Edit: BTW, my tv is a Panasonic TX-L32C3B if that makes any difference?

I am very sure that what the device outputs is a PAL signal, meaning 576i. Far from ideal for a HD TV. The device is meant for old-school CRT TVs. Playing around you could possibly get the colors somewhat correct, but 576i scaled to 720p will always look fuzzy, no way around that.

Thanks for the reply. If that's the case, then it looks like it's impossible to connect my laptop to my TV... :-(
