[SOLVED] unstable xorg-server in [extra]?

I just want to confirm;

Yesterday, I noticed that a new version of xserver was in the repos;
http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra … rg-server/

Now, I also noticed the following disclaimer in my xorg logs:

This is a pre-release version of the X server from The X.Org Foundation.
It is not supported in any way.
Bugs may be filed in the bugzilla at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/.
Select the "xorg" product for bugs you find in this release.
Before reporting bugs in pre-release versions please check the
latest version in the X.Org Foundation git repository.
See http://wiki.x.org/wiki/GitPage for git access instructions.
[ 12.440]
X.Org X Server 1.11.1.901 (1.11.2 RC 1)
Release Date: 2011-10-14

So, this seems to be pre-release, testing version of xorg.
How can it be in [extra] repository?
I was in that, extra is just for stable packages.
Or, am I missing something?

Thanks,

Wouldn't be the first time an RC hits the stable repositories smile.

Re: [SOLVED] unstable xorg-server in [extra]?

This is from xorg-server 1.11.1 to 1.11.2, not a major upgrade:
from mailing list xorg-announce

This is the first release candidate for xorg-server 1.11.2 and contains
fixes for various crashes and correctness issues fixed since the previous
release.

I've always seen rc minor bug correction releases put in [Extra] before official release dates since I used Arch Linux.
I never had any issues with rc releases.
So it's not the first time it happens, and isn't it better to benefit from bug fixes as soon as possible?

With major upgrades there is a testing period, but not for minor udates.
Do you have problem with this?

It is not supported in any way.

can be a bit scary, but I've never noticed any differences in stability so I just let upstream put whatever messages they want and I trust our devs have a reason to put it in [extra] even if it's labeled pre-release.

Hmm...good to know.
Anyway, I think this is understandable due to rolling/cutting-edge nature of Arch (especially when some critical bugs are fixed and no stable release is available yet), I was just surprised a bit.
Thanks for the explanation.

P.S. No, I do not have problems, I was just unsure, thinking that this may be something to do with yesterdays downtime (sure it was forums mainly, but still) and as they're now re syncing, so by mistake some testing package maid had slipped in. [not likely, just wanted to make sure - because I don't know how the whole arch infrastructure is done].

Also, because the whole kernel.org security breach and things, I am now much more curious about various [unusually looking] packages on my system and I wasn't familiar with the habit of including RC versions into stable repos until now.

Thanks,

Exactly.
