Hey guys, I've recently switched to "Arch Linux". I love this distro, I should of switched long time ago. I was tired of Ubuntu and deb's in general. Also the fact that it used Gnome 3 in the newest release. I've installed XFCE4 and very happy. Looks like "Linus Torvalds" right after all about XFCE. He said that Xfce is a step down from GNOME 2 — but a huge step up from GNOME 3.

Hello to everyone. Harry from Colombia. I came from ubuntu and i changed of distro because i think unity was a bad bad decition. I do love gnome shell and, though Fedora 15 have it, i didnt like the extremely free fedora philosophy. So, here i am, writing from my wonderful archlinux

Hello Everybody,
I'm Maarten from Antwerp, Belgium and I've used Debian and ubuntu for the last few years. I've always liked the Arch documentation and forum, which have proven so helpful to me in the past. So when I felt it was time for a change (and after reading about the "Arch Way", joining the Arch community seemed like a natural choice.
Cheers,
Maarten

Hello everyone. I've been using Linux ever since July this year, and I've experimented with various distros. I started out with Ubuntu which seemed to be the easiest one to use at the time, and then went to Crunchbang, and finally Arch. I agree to the principles and The Arch Way, and it's perfect for me. No unnecessary packages, no unneeded bloat, etc.
I hope I can help people as I learn more things.

Hello all, ive been an avid user of Linux in general and would like to thank the Linux community In general (including the Archlinux community) for providing such a solid computing platform for everyone to harness. I will be looking forward on contributing and possibly developing (1 day) for such a great community! Thank you all.

Hi everyone.
I've been running Linux on and off for almost twenty years, originally installing SLS from a stack of 3.5" floppies, moving on to debian, mandrake, and ubuntu, and have finally decided to give archlinux a try. I've been coddled by ubuntu for the last 5 years but have been put off by the ugly 'unity' interface and the ever-increasing monetisation (buy cloud space, buy software).
The install was tricky compared to the Ubuntu installer, but I finally got pretty much everything working how I like it. Huge thanks to the guys in #archlinux for their patience as I fired off all my newbie questions at them!
Hopefully the first productive thing I'll do is find out why 'cfdisk' refuses to run on my hard drive. It almost made me give up and try a different distro, until I was told that I could just skip the 'partition disk' step of the installer.

Archboot ISO is another solution - it is using GNU Parted instead of cfdisk during partitioning:

I am aiming to use Arch as my main system where as before I prefered not to .. my thinking being that arch would not be stable enough.
Looking forward to some nice discussion :?)

Hello ladies
I've just arrived here from Mandrake -> PCLOS -> FC10 -> SuSE -> Ubuntu -> Gentoo -> Mint etc etc
I'm really impressed with the whole Arch Linux way of doing things. I installed it first of all on VirtualBox and after a long fight to get X up and working, I decided to replace my main distro (Mint). So far I have completed the installation and got to a Gnome 3 / Shell desktop. Not quite sure how I got to it as I only wanted a Gnome 3 desktop (no Shell) but I guess I'll use it for a short while to see how it goes.
My next priority is to see if I can get rid of Pulseaudio as it just does not work well, what with lag in games and repeating sound like a stuck record I'll maybe post this in another board.
Anyhow, that's all for now. I'm sure we'll chat soon in a support board
Oh BTW I must say that the Wiki is just great! I only got this far by reading it. I've just installed network-manager and it worked first time. Well done to all involved in that project! One comment though... some sections have a comment like "the next section is deprecated or no longer applicable". Perhaps these affected sections should be removed? Or are they there for people using older versions?

Hi everyone,
I just installed Arch on my laptop last night. I've been using Ubuntu for the last couple of years, but decided it was time for something new. I still have a bit of trouble finding my way around, but managed to get gnome and a browser working so far. Ü

Hi Guys,
so I found my way back to linux and I decided to use Arch. I played a bit with linux maybe like 10 years ago with red hat 6 and stuff, so I'm kinda rusty u can say .
I really love the Arch way though and it was a close decision between CRUX and Arch but Arch seemed to be better.
Probably gonna bombard you with questions tho in the beginning, we'll see
cheers

Hello everyone,
Used to have Arch installed, but since I moved from a HDD RAID to a SSD, I had no free space (and I was not in the mood of installing a HDD). Just got a Intel 320 SSD 40gb for just 40 EUR, so I decided to install it again. Let´s be honest, I missed Arch. I missed Linux. I missed tinkering with Linux. Windows is no fun D8.
But now I'm back! And probably I'm gonna love Arch even more than before. And find new friends here.
BTW: I would like to know who decided to use that anti-bot measure in the register form. I had to download Arch and fire a VM just to sign in a forum. Anyway, chapeau to that guy/gal. You made me laugh when I saw it :3

Hello everyone,
I decided to leave Ubuntu.
Now I am very pleased with the lightness and speed of the Arch and XFCE.

Hello everyone,
my name is Saurav, & I am from Kolkata, India. I am using Linux for the past 8 months and I recently switched to arch because I was tierd of the crazy six months updates of Fedora and Ubuntu. I was so charmed by it that I managed to install it including the desktop environment, even without an internet connection. Looking forward for a lot of things from Arch and this community. :-D

Hello everyone, I'm leomeloxp and thanks for the great distro you guys have...
I've been using Ubuntu for some years (before that was Windows XP, and Win7 in, Dual Boot with Ubuntu, for some proprietary softs from uni). I first heard from Arch about a year ago, when Ubuntu's Unity started to show up, I tried to struggle into Ubuntu Classic (Gnome 2) look but now I can't any more... I installed Arch last Sunday (my birthday) and I got it running with Gnome Shell, which I think it runs really smoothly
I read about the Arch Way, and I also read a few reviews where they said the Arch Linux community is more engaged into help rather than just ask for developers to implement stuff. I would like to help you guys out, but I don't really know any specific programming language, I just had some intro to Java and C at Uni (I'm a math guy =P). I'm willing to learn some Python, and I can surely help with translations, I'm natural from Brazilian. So let me know how I can help =]
Hope I can learn lots with you guys and also hope I don't ask too much n00b questions XD'
My contacts are: Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus
See you guys o/

Hello everyone,
I am also new to the forum, although I am not so new to Arch now. I've been using it on my desktop for a year (2009) until it was stolen. I now have a laptop that only runs this nice distro and am still glad I switched from Fedora and Ubuntu.
I am from Germany and I am attending University while also working as an IT consultant for my fellow students. Maybe I can also participate in the community here, which I'd be very glad about.
Have a nice evening or day!
