[solved] X-crash after downgrade

Hi there.

Made a huge mistake... I did not upgrade my system quite a while and did not notice the recent problem with newest catalyst + xorg-server >1.11.
X did not start of course after update. So I downgraded xorg-server manually via abs. I used this source: http://www.x.org/releases/individual/xserver/ and this package: xorg-server-1.10.99.902.tar.gz.
Worked quite well, set xorg-server in pacman ignore list for now.

But this is where the problem starts... everything seems to be installed without dependency issues... fglrx starts fine. But if I try to start it (via kdm or startx) the system crashes. Have to make a hard reboot via power button.
Logfiles don't look strange. No error... :-$

Any idea? Is there a near release of a new catalyst version that supports newest xorg?
Thanks!

I would actually go even further back with xorg, to 1.10.4. Other than that, no clue. Catalyst is a bitch. Once you find a combination that works, stick with it.

Re: [solved] X-crash after downgrade

Hm thanks. I tried that, but building 1.10.4 and 1.10.3 fails. I did not try below yet. Think there were some major / minor changes in the PKGBUILD that cause problems. Can't do this stuff good enough to configure the PKGBUILD for my needs. An original PKGBUILD from 1.10.4 would come in handy...

Do you actually have to build it? The Arch Rollback Machine should have 1.10.4. If you do want to build though... hmm, interesting, I can't see the 1.10.4 PKGBUILD... but here's 1.10.3 and the corresponding patches: http://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/ … 52043749e8

Re: [solved] X-crash after downgrade

ARM is a great idea, thanks! Did not know this project before...
Downloaded "xorg-server-1.10.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar". But when I try to install (with -U of course) there is a unsolvable conflict with xf86-input-evdev.
It doesn't matter if xf86-input-evdev is installed or not, forcing install doesn't help.

Re: [solved] X-crash after downgrade

That's normal, you'll have to downgrade all input drivers, which means xf86-input-evdev and, if you use it, xf86-input-synaptics. Don't ask me which versions you need though smile
