I also update all base packages.

I'm having the same problem with Caja on 64 bit after today's update. It's constantly crashing. I'm using Thunar as a temporary replacement. It seems fine.

Is there anything you are doing in particular for Caja to crash.... only mine seems solid at the moment?

Okay after a reboot my Caja is also crashing as soon as I select a directory to enter with a double click.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Quick workaround for the caja file manager crashing in 64bit version.
download old version from my server...

http://germ.winpe.com/fileman/mate-file … pkg.tar.xz

install with...
pacman -U mate-file-manager-2011.9.26-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

restart the desktop and it will be okay until Perberos gets it sorted, it will take the pressure off as well.

Hope this helps.

Clive

NOTE:
I can confirm that the 32bit version does not appear to have a problem.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

I will check that.

ADDED:
I tested the precompiled, and work well.
But I tryied to compile mate-file-manager-2011.9.26-1-x86_64 and had same problems.

I removed mate-file-manager-2011.10.29-1-x86_64 from the repo.

Hi

It will be nice if you find a second hoster/mirror for your files because 50 kbytes are to slow smile

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Installing the latest updates, a bunch are being pulled in from AUR....does caja-sendto really need to be a dependency for caja-open-terminal?

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

I have a problem with the menu. LXDE and I have a mate - arch and I have a problem with double entries in a mate and lxde. I suspect that this is associated with the files that relate to the desktop environment. Just as I do now that in one and the second was normlane menu - no duplicate items?

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Hi Perberos,

Mate-file-manager still crashes in the same way, I just updated the repo with the new version, looks like I will have to undo the update.

Please let me know when you think it is fixed, I will check it right away.

Thanks.

Clive

Looks like something may be wrong, it has been upgraded and downgraded a few times and I think it is in a bit of a mess... I will sort it out and report back here when it is done.

are you using 32 or 64 bit?

Clive

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Okay I am doing 64 bit first.

I am uploading the whole lot again as the repo got into a bit of a mess over the weekend.

Sorry for the delay but I will get it done as fast as I can.

It's coming along slowly, but I'm getting there. Exams and assignments are getting in the way sad.

Mhm. Despite the fix two days ago I still am having G_CONST errors (I upgraded after the first fail, I probably should recompile the whole mate-desktop-environment suite?).

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

hi
i really like mate, thanks a lot!
i am running arch 64bit and mate runs great!
i had some trouble installing  mate-applets (mate-applets and mate-character-map weren't found in the repositories), solved that by installing manually though, i don't know if that problem still persists.
another issue i ran into was that some applications like chromium or a certain screenlet used the script/command xdg-open, which led to firefox being the standard file browser for them. there is no entry in xdg-open for mate as there is for kde or gnome. i don't know what the best solution would be, installing the package perl-file-mimeinfo did it for me though.
just thought i'd point that out, maybe someone else is having the same problems
thanks for keeping this desktop environment alive, cheers!

/edit:
i only now realized that mate is already in the aur, that probably solves the mate-applets issue i had.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Hey. I've got several questions:

1. Are the Mint guys helping? (Seeing as they are considering including MATE in Mint 12.) Any other support for MATE?
2. Are there plans to improve on GNOME 2 in any way, or is this simply an effort to make it work side by side with GNOME 3 libs and fix bugs?
3. Are there plans to migrate to GTK 3?
4. Will there be 6-month releases, a release whenever it's ready cycle, or is this a rolling project? big_smile

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

1. yes
2. I can not answer that question
3. I am porting it slowly, but it's not a priority. Gtk is just a toolkit.
4. rolling release

xdg problem was reported here https://github.com/Perberos/Mate-Deskto … /issues/15
