I thought I understood the concept of mpd: in a client-server architecture mpd is the server which controls your music queue and you need a client to interact with it. I use ncmpcpp as a client. I've just realized that ncmpcpp does not depend on mpd and it works happily even if the mpd package is not installed. Now I feel stupid and confused.
Could you explain the whole thing, please?
EDIT: Um... Sorry, actually ncmpcpp doesn't work without mpd (I just logged in and out but didn't restarted the computer so mpd was still running after its uninstallation... silly me). So then why ncmpcpp doesn't depends on mpd?

MPD's network protocol doesn't depend on any API. How does my browser permits me to send this message to Arch forum? ![]()
"I exist" is the best myth I know..

The mpd package doesn't have to be installed on the computer ncmpcpp is installed on, because the server can of course run on another computer. Of course you'll have to adjust the ncmpcpp's config so it doesn't look for an mpd server on localhost.
