New hardware arriving tomorrow

Hello,

Last week I ordered some new hardware and now I'm kind of worried that I've might have made som bad decisions.

I ordered an Intel Core i5 2500 3.3Ghz cpu and a Asus P8H67-M EVO motherboard. However, after doing some reading on Phoronix I've noticed that the integrated Intel GPU seems to be having some big issues with Linux(Phoronix was using the P8H67-M PRO though), such as ugly tiles appearing all over the screen.

Has anyone been running the latest, fully updated, Arch with this hardware? And if so, how did it go?

Are you sure the Phoronix info is still accurate? IIRC, Intel has released a driver supporting Sandy Bridge graphics...

Probably not. There have been new kernel and intel driver releases since then.

@dlind: I don't think you'll have problems. For the tiny chance that you will though, use a few bits of testing software like linux-3.1 and xf86-video-intel-2.16.901, and that should take care of it.

I have a similar system, Intel Core i5 2405s and Intel DH67GD motherboard, running up-to-date Arch. The 2405s uses the 3000hd graphics gpu (and limits power usage s.t. my max cpu temps under heavy load has been 61C with very modest quiet cooling from three low-speed case fans, no psu fan). I've not seen any graphics glitches except for occasional tearing in the middle of the screen when playing a movie directly from a dvd. I experimented a bit when I first got the setup and found that there was no tearing if I encoded movies to a fixed framerate (either 24.0 or 29.97). After I do that movies play much better with this system than with my previous Nvidia gpu (ION chipset). This i5 system is so fast in encoding x264 that I can watch a movie mp4 file while it is still being encoded, the encoding is faster than realtime. I don't know what caused the tearing or if it could be eliminated entirely by changing some settings. It wasn't very noticeable and only occurred once every few minutes. Encoding to a fixed framerate gives me perfect video.

BTW with the Sandy Bridge board I finally have a system that suspends and resumes reliably.
