Hi all,
Can't seem to find a solution for this anywhere, so I'm trying here.
Using gnome 3, I like the left/right edge tiling mechanism. Ie, when you grab a window and mouse-move it to the left/right edges, gnome will auto-resize it to half screen.
However, the top-tiling is annoying. This is when you take the same window and push it to the top edge, gnome decides to maximize it, which takes up the whole screen.
Using gconf-editor, I can't disable just that top-tiling bit. Its an all or nothing toggle that disables _all_ window tiling.
Hoping someone here can point me the right way.

Shameless bump
(Yes, I am trying to post this very question on the gnome boards. Thing is, I'm still waiting for my account activation after 3 days. They must have this rigorous screening process to filter out terrorist posters or something. Sigh)

I would be also very interested in this fix.

Oh wow, I completely forgot about this.
Sorry Raqua, haven't come across any fixes. Also, based on what I've read, there probably won't be a "fix" soon.
Meanwhile, I've just given up and am using fallback mode with cairo-dock, gnome-do and compiz. IMHO, its the same experience but with much more customization options. That and you get back the space that gnome-shell likes to waste with an empty taskbar

I wanted to disable the automaximize feature when moving a window to the top so I tried the fallback mode as explained on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … lback_mode but then I couldn't login anymore ... as I am not a gnome expert I just created a new user and copied important files from my old user to the new user ...
Anybody succeeded in disabling the gnome-shell automaximize feature when moving a window to the top ??
Maybe we can disable this feature if we can force gnome classic mode ?

pierro78, this is a very old thread. I recommend that you start a new one.

@pierro78
If you don't mind disabling edge tiling for left and right edges too:
$ dconf write /org/gnome/shell/overrides/edge-tiling false
Tiling can be done using Super+Left, Super+Right, Super+Up too, so I don't think disabling all will bring much inconvenience anyway.
