Hi,
I'm having problems with switching between keyboard layout through a keyboard shortcut since upgrading to KDE 4.7.3. Googling around, I found this post by a guy who has the exact same problem under openSuse. Assuming you set some keyboard shortcut (either "alternate" or "main level"), here's the problem (description copied from his post):
1) the shortcut does not change layout;
2) clicking on the flag in the systray changes layout only between us and it;
3) opening the contextual menu, I see "us - USA", "it - Italy", "--
-", an horizontal line (like a separator) and "de - Germany";
4) if I remove and add again the layouts, or if I choose de from the
contextual menu, then clicking on the flag proposes correctly all the
three layouts and "-- -" and the separator has disappeared from the
contextual menu;
5) if I try to use the shortcut, then I come back to points 1,2, and 3.
Anybody experiencing the same thing?

Had something similar happen to me today between en(UK) and de. I reassigned the shortcut (ALT+shift in my case) and things worked again as advertised. I did not fart around with the layouts themselves.
Another snippet of info - my keyboard layout is set so it can be changed for each window - not sure whether that is useful though.

Thanks for the reply. Setting the shortcut to ALT+Shift makes switching behave as expected (regardless of whether the switching policy is set to global or per window), but other combinations (including my custom shortcut of ctrl+`) don't work properly. Still, very useful workaround.

Same issue here. Problem only occurs if you are using a custom shortcut (not one of the shortcuts mentioned in Main Shortcut.
I did a quick search and this is the only related post I have found on the topic so it seems like an Arch only problem. If it is a KDE problem, this http://www.commit-digest.org/issues/201 … 79ffe2ed8/ bug-fix could be the reason.

Actually, not all of the shortcuts in Main Shortcut work for me - for instance, "both Alt keys together" behaves very strangely (it switches to the first layout in my list, but has no effect later on). Could you check if you can reproduce? I don't think it's an Arch specific problem, since the post I referred to comes from the openSuse mailing list.

Here is a KDE bug for the issue
