[SOLVED] Kernel 3.1-4 broke Broadcom wireless

Hello everyone,

After updating everything today, I went from the Arch 3.0 kernel to Arch 3.1-4.  After this, my wireless no longer works, and NetworkManager displays "device not ready (firmware missing)".  I did not remove any firmware, nor did I make any configuration changes...this happened directly from my updating kernels.

My lspci is:

08:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43225 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance. :-)

Re: [SOLVED] Kernel 3.1-4 broke Broadcom wireless

While waiting for a reply, I double-checked the wiki and found these instructions on blacklisting the bcma module.  While using Arch kernel 3.0 this wasn't necessary, I guess it changed with the new kernel.

Will mark as solved. big_smile

Same issue. Blacklisting bcma just worked. Awesome!

With kernel 3.1, you now have two options. Either blacklist bcma to use the brcmsmac driver, or blacklist brcmsmac and install b43-firmware from AUR to use the b43 driver. The networkmanager message is correct, it tried to use b43, but you didn't have firmware for it.
