Linux 3.1(?) breaks bash alt key shortcuts

I did a system update today which included an upgrade to linux 3.1-4 (from 3.0.7-1).

Since then, alt key shortcuts in bash (alt+a, alt+b, alt+p, alt+. , etc.) aren't working. Pressing alt+b, for example, just inputs a letter b rather than moving the cursor back one character.

This seems to be affecting both the i686 and x86_64 versions, as it's happened on both my 64-bit desktop machine and 32-bit netbook.

I suppose I ought to report this as a bug, but thought I'd check here first in case anyone else has had this issue and found a resolution - and also to confirm what package people think any bug report should be filed against. The kernel looks the mostly likely culprit - there were no updates to bash itself.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

@wonder: Thank you, yes, that sounds very much like it. It looks like someone has filed the gtk bug already, so I'll sit tight and wait for a fix in due course.
