Hi,
Sometimes I use text mode (console, or whatever you call runlevel 3) to quickly check email or update the system. It's faster and consumes less battery (laptop here). Since the last update, the screen goes black as soon as it loads modules and the only way I've found to make it alive is to exec 'startx' after login blindly. Which completely nullifies the point of starting in text mode in the first place, of course.
This is what lspci says about the graphics: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)
Not sure if this is the right subforum, but since I've noticed the issue after upgrading to kernel 3.1-4 I suspect it may be related.
TIA.

I haven't read it, but there's a discussion on the ML that might help http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 22687.html

Thanks for the link, karol. At least it seems to be a well noticed issue, so hopefully it will be addressed soon.

Hi,
Does anyone know how is the issue?, If there are new drivers for intel?
Many thanks

intel-dri 7.11.1-1 was released last week, but it doesn't solve the problem for me. What is more, with linux 3.1.1-1 the screen goes black most of the times, but not always. Sometimes it switches resolution and the text is displayed just fine. Which is quite puzzling, since you'd expect a system that is booting to behave exactly the same each and every time.
