X goes crazy on Intel video driver

I'm completely stop here, have followed every word in the wiki for Intel video driver but this is what I get on TWO totally different computers, only having an Intel GPU chip in common. Everything's fine in the console until X starts up:

Intel video driver crash

Looks to me like the wrong resolution for your monitor.  Try adding a mode line for xorg.conf.

Post xorg log.

Re: X goes crazy on Intel video driver

it turns out that I needed to delete the current X configuration from
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-gpu.conf

I am 99% I read somewhere that the xf86-video-intel would reconfigure X automatically... sorry for screaming wolf!
