I can't seem to get my printer working, what I have done so far:
- installed cups
- gutenprint installed
- downloaded the official mp610en.ppd and copied it to /usr/share/cups/model
- restarted cupsd
after this, tail /var/log/messages:
Oct 30 18:27:15 localhost kernel: [25902.094581] usb 2-1.3.5: new high speed USB device number 10 using ehci_hcd

When I log into the webinterface and try to add a printer, it doesn't show me any local printers. I also added the ppd manually in the GIMP printing dialog (print with Gutenprint) but I get the error message: lp:Error - no default destination available.
I read the wiki article on cups but can't get anywhere from this. Thanks for the help.

I don't know what I have done but I could actually add the printer properly in the cups webinterface.
Anyways, it doesn't print: Idle - "File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij" not available: No such file or directory"

I downloaded the canon drivers and extracted them, new error: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij failed"

I ran into that error before with a MG8120, but that was before I tried Arch.

Hello, thank you David Batson, you really helped me out. I did a bit trial and error, so I can't exactly reproduce my actions, however maybe I can help someone with my instructions (I'm using x86_64 btw)
1. use cups-usblp from AUR and NOT standard cups
2. install gutenprint drivers and cnijfilter-common-x86_64 (AUR)
3. use the ppd files from http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp610linux/
then start cups, add the printer and try printing via the Gutenprint dialog (don't forget to set the right Printer Queue when using the "Setup Printer" dialog). Hope this helps.
