Well, I got the distro bug again and left Arch for a bit. I tried Ubuntu Hoary, SuSe 9.3, Fedora Core 4, and even Frugalware. They all had their strengths & weaknesses.
For me, I found there's no place like Arch! There's nothing like it's simplicity and speed! Just a note to thank the Arch developers and community for all their hard work!

Hell, Arch is like Distro Hoppers Anonymous! For those addicted to hopping, try the Arch detox that will cleanse you from this anti-social habbit!

I keep getting the urge to hop and try something else, just for a change. Just can't see anything that really calls out to me at present.

I tried Ubuntu 64 for about five minutes before I ran back to the safety of my native distro.

I just find the title of this thread funny, because I actually rented The Wizard Of Oz yesterday. There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home.
As with most distro hoppers, every now and then I want to try out new ones, sometimes just to check out their progress, which is when qemu is very useful. I can try them out without even rebooting.
But I have to agree, Arch really is a great distro and the first that I've been able to use for longer than a few months without getting horribly pissed at little faults (like I do with most distros).

Speaking of 64bit OS, are we going to see Arch64 anytime soon?

killerfish, expound on your experience with Frugal. What was good and bad about it? I expect it has small repos still.

Small repos was one reason.. Also, not many mirrors and no US mirrors. Another big reason was my network module. I have a non-standard/supported network module but I have the source code to get it working in Linux. Frugalware was teh only distro where I can't get it to work properly with any kernel. Didn't really try figure out why because of the biggest reason I came back.. The ARCH Community.
It's just much more mature and active. I realize Frugalware is still growing, but to me, it felt like a copy of an original. Just my random thoughts. Plus, I like the init procedure much more in Arch. For me, it's more straightforward in Arch then Frugalware...
Thx

Same thing here. Before I installed Arch, I made 2 partitions for a system to be installed on.
So far only one is used. Wanted to install FreeBSD on it once, but then I found out it doesn't work on logical partitions....

Another distro-hopping-hobbiest here, but I've been settled into Arch longer than any distro I've used over the last 6 years. I do still check out the lastest version of many distros, but only to see what changes have been made.
Even with the issues that many have faced with upgrades over the last few weeks, nothing else seems to match the power, speed, and ease of use that I find in good ol' ArchLinux. 8)

I just read an article in some linux rag, about frugal. They mentioned pacman without mentioning judd or archlinux.![]()
Not a long article, but it made is kinduv sound like had developed pacman in house..which is not the case.
