Dell Vostro 1510 don't recognizes SD/MMC cards

Hello,

Is anyone else facing the same problem?

My laptop stop to recognize SD cards, none of them.

The internal reader seems to be recognized as show in dmesg:

lspci -k shows the reader too:

But when I plug any SD card, nothing occurs, nothing in the logs too.

My notebook is a Dell Vostro 1510, so I tried to use Windows Vista, the card does not opens too, then I call Dell support and they told me to upgrade the BIOS, SD and chipset drivers, after that the card started to work again, just in Windows Vista...

Is there something that I can do to debug this problem?

Does it work if an SD card was inside during boot? If yes, you can try the trick that works on Aspire One netbooks: add this to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

options pciehp pciehp_force=1

then add pciehp to the MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf

Oh, and also add pcie_ports=native to the kernel line in grub.

No, it doesn't work if the SD card is inside during boot, but I tried that anyway and doesn't work too...

Also, nothing happens when I plug the SD with "udevadm monitor" running...

Post the output lscpi -nn, so we'll know which card reader you have. Also, check documentation for other pcie_ports values and try each of them. Probably won't work, but who knows.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=752614 <- This says it worked with kernel 2.6.38, but not with newer kernels. So try 2.6.38, and maybe even older kernels.

I don't know if it'll work for you, but my Dell XPS 15z has a SD card reader only recognizes cards after you enter the following command:

sudo sh -c "echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan"

It's effective until the next reboot.

Same problem here. No working card with Linux 3.2.5-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT
