Newly created scangearmp-mg5300 and sane backend issue

I've added the scangearmp-mg5300 PKGBUILD for the Canon PIXMA MG5300 series, largely based on the 5200 series one (credits and thanks to the author ).
It works great - i.e. I can scan using the scangearmp utility - but I can't scan using the sane backend. Apparently this issue wasn't solved for the 5200 series as well.
I think the problem depends on the libsane-canon_mfp* libraries being installed in /usr/lib, instead of /usr/lib/sane, but modifying the source code and/or the configure.in/Makefile.am to let them install in the correct place is a bit beyond my skills...
Does anyone have any hint?

BTW, a cnijfilter-mg5300 package, for the printer, is available as well.
