[SOlved] Can't upgrade the kernel on my laptop

Whenever I try and upgrade the "linux" package, I get several hardware failures after a reboot.  These are all due to missing modules.  If I run "uname -a" I am told that the system is still 3.0 - despite the last two kernel upgrades being 3.1

Any ideas why this isn't working properly?

Make sure you have the full root environment - use

su -

and not just

su

. Then reinstall the kernel. You should be fine.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the result was exactly the same.

Is /boot properly mounted when you upgrade your kernel? I seem to remember people having this problem...

Thanks - that was it.  I was surprised to see it not in fstab at all - I'm sure I put it there... All's well now though. Thanks again.
