why arent package managers p2p?

this literally just crossed my mind:

linux is free right? and therefore making things like hosts for packages means there's a cost for bandwidth; and a high one for fast connections.

so why don't we have P2P package managers? in arches case it would probably work with existing servers as trackers; and having a security key (to check packages arent being tampered with) the peer2peer downloading would be quite fast: and with proper naming should mean that many versions are available at once!


what do you bunch think?
