Unusual issue - Arch fails and reboots after Grub menu

Hi everyone

I'm not a developer but still am an experienced user, having used Linux for almost ten years. This is the first time I experience an issue like this.

Once I choose Arch Linux on my Grub menu, the first portion of the load appears (very fast; I cannot read it) and then the screen goes black and the system simply reboots. This comes after a session where I did not modify any system settings (except a Pacman -Syu).

I initially figured Grub must be the problem and tried modifying the root (going from (hd0,0) to the exact drive) and the kernel lines (I use uuid and for instance tried to change it to the normal /dev/sdb2). Nothing worked although I got errors 15, 17 and 22 instead of an instant reboot.

Has anyone seen this issue and if so how can it be solved? I have yet to find any pertinent documentation on this. Could my system simply be hosed (virus in Linux? broken update? Grub issue?) and in need of a re-install? Usually Arch is rock-solid on my computer.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Unusual issue - Arch fails and reboots after Grub menu

My guess would be a grub issue.  I would try reinstalling grub, it's the easiest thing to try too.  It seems if it was a kernel issue you would get a panic.  I haven't seen this issue before though.
