Brightness on Macbook Pro 8,2

* with xf86-video-ati driver

$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Whistler [AMD Radeon HD 6600M Series]

# cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
  15

I tried
  # echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
it doesn't change anything.

any ideas?

a quick fix:

boot into Mac OS X and adjust the brightness, then boot back.
