Dell XPS L502X - USB problems

Hi Arch users!
I have been experiencing a consistent problem with my USB on my Dell.

I have 3 USB ports, I do not experience any trouble with the port that shares with eSata (Port 1), however the two other ports (Port 2 and Port 3) give me trouble all the time. connecting a usb drive that does work and I have to remove it and put it into Port 1 then it works. However, if i restart Arch with the non-working port the Usb drive works. This is case for a varity of USB amnufactures.

The issue is common but it not always which is what is really mistrious to me. The following is the dmesg of my more recent incident where i plugged into Port 2 (found it did not work) and pluged into Port 1.

Re: Dell XPS L502X - USB problems

I'm not familiar with your machine but I would first of all get into your BIOS setup, reset everything to BIOS defaults, then if you made any BIOS changes set things to how you had them and reboot. I would boot back into arch, open a terminal and type "sudo tail -f /var/log/messages.log".

Then plug a USB device, preferably a thumb drive, into a port that sometimes do not work and paste here, or to a pastebin somewhere, the messages you get in the terminal.

Re: Dell XPS L502X - USB problems

I have the same notebook and everything works fine here. Here is my BIOS setup:
BIOS A05
USB Emulation [Disabled]
USB Powershare [Enabled]
USB Wake Support [Disabled]

Re: Dell XPS L502X - USB problems

I also have a L502X.  I think the problem is due to the fact that ports 2&3 are connected to the USB 3.0 controller and Port 1 is only a USB 2.0 port.  I've had the same issue when trying to boot into linux from a thumbdrive.  It only works from Port 1.  Not exactly sure what you could do to fix the problem.

Re: Dell XPS L502X - USB problems

Is there any fix for this issue? I am using kernel 3.6.10-1-ARCH #1 and still doesn't work.

Cheers.
