heroes of newerth install, nothing but problems

i hope this is the right place to post this but ive been trying to install HON for like 2 days now. ive searched all the forums and cant seem to get a straight answer. it seems like alot of people have this problem but no one can figure it out. so i downloaded the .sh file from the official website and when i got it i right clicked>properites> make executeable or something like that. so i run it in the terminal and i accept the license agreement and it installs, says it was sucessfull and even puts an awesome icon in my apps drawr. but when i click on it it flashes something really quick, positions my cursor to the center of the screen and then does nothing.

You could try:
- Start the game executable via a terminal and report back the output
- Install the game from AUR, maybe you are just missing a dependency and again if it doesn't work report the output after starting the game.

thanks for the help guys, i ran it from the terminal and got these results:

warning: The VAD has been replaced by a hack pending a complete rewrite
K2 - Fatal Error: ARB_vertex_buffer_object not available.

im gonna try uninstalling and then reinstalling from AUR.
but if anyone can help with a fix for this, id like to learn what alll that stuff means

I can install the new package from the AUR just fine but I can't launch it. I get a segmentation fault error. I've looked on the HoN forums and some people have fixed this by making a startup.cfg file in ~/.Heroes of Newerth/game/ but it didn't work for me. Apparently newer NVIDIA packages have messed soemthing up. I did have it working a few weeks ago though :*(

Sorry for the late reply. I had the same issue with a fresh install recently. The workaround for this is to seed a HoN config file before trying to ./hon-x86 or ./hon.sh.

Could you try:

That should seed your config enough to allow hon to launch - this will be fixed shortly
