[SOLVED] (KDE 4.7.4) No openGL effects after today's upgrade

Hi guys,
as the title says, after upgrading the system with a pacman -Syu ( installed latest kde version and intel driver too) today and rebooting, KDE disables my desktop effects saying that the system is too slow. It worked flawlessly before. I can only enable effects using XRender. Even tried downgrading intel driver's back to former version to no avail.
Any ideas? Thank you

Re: [SOLVED] (KDE 4.7.4) No openGL effects after today's upgrade

I am upgrading as I write.  I run an Intel graphics system on a 2 GHz Core 2 duo.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07)

What does lspci -nn  (That is two n's, not m) say about your controller?

I'll tell you how my system works out later this evening.

Update complete.  Rebooted.  Works just dandy -- Sorry about that sad

Perhaps you could upload your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to pastebin and provide us a link.

Re: [SOLVED] (KDE 4.7.4) No openGL effects after today's upgrade

Good morning,

I'm having the same problem after update, with pop-up that says my desktop effects have been disabled b/c too slow. Worked before update.

Here's my lspci -nn controller output:

00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express DRAM Controller [8086:29c0] (rev 02)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:29c2] (rev 02)

Re: [SOLVED] (KDE 4.7.4) No openGL effects after today's upgrade

I'm also having strange problems with KDE and Kwin - none of the desktop effects (OpenGL) can be loaded since updating today from 4.7.3-1 - > 4.7.4-1

When I try switching desktops effects off and then back on - I get a pop-up window saying none of the desktop effect I have configured can be loaded.
There is no message saying that anything is too slow - I have a 2 year old NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 which has been rock solid and always reliable and I've never had any driver issues.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce GTS 250] [10de:0615] (rev a2)

Other applications are misbehaving too.
For example, (with no related updates to flashplugin or firefox) - flash videos are causing problems in firefox - including the firefox process suddenly disappearing (without even a crash) and serious video problems across the whole screen - not just the firefox window.

This version if KDE is giving me serious issues - I want to go back to 4.7.3, but I can;t see an easy way of doing that.
Anyone have any advice?

After using system for an hour, I've also noticed that this update is giving me a lot of problems. So far, kwin and kfilebox (kde dropbox alternative) aren't working and I can't print.

Re: [SOLVED] (KDE 4.7.4) No openGL effects after today's upgrade

After using arch for more than 3 years I still manage to learn something new ... today I learned that you get all sort of errors and problems when root is full. I never cleaned my pacman cache as I saw no need and it was convenient if I needed to downgrade. It had quietly grown to over 20gb over time, causing my root to be filled 100%, and causing all sorts of problems. I ran cacheclean, regained 15gb of space, and everything is running perfect.

After 4 hours of !@#$$%%^ with everything, lesson finally learned!
