Has anybody noticed that AAC files sound far richer and developed under mplayer/smplayer (no gain, equalization, software-enchanced volume control, or additional post-processing applied) than DeaDBeeF? I thought it was just me, but asked a few friends the same with an impromptu ABX-like session. Could the reason be that faac (libavformat) > faad2 (inactive development) in terms of acurracy? Perhaps DeaDBeeF ought to use faac for AAC decoding as well...

Great software! Thanks to the devs!
I still use foobar2000 with wine for advanced features.
But I hope DeaDBeeF will be as powerful as foobar2000.
That way I will get rid of M$ and use 100% Linux.

I think there is a lot of prior features, but is there someone planing to implement an Ipod management plugin (as foo_dop in foobar2000)?

This is my new favourite music player by far. Thanks. I only have 2 questions:

1) Is there any way to sync an mp3 player or write music to it? I read earlier in this thread that ipods are not supported; does that mean all mp3 players?
2) I really like the hotkey configuration settings. One option I do not see though is mute sound. Is there an option for this that I did not see or is it not a feature that is included?

My favorite music player now. It looks exactly like foobar which was the appearance I wanted. I was just wondering if these were possible:

1. I set my preferences so that it always shows a notification icon and when I hit close it minimizes to tray. I'm just wondering whether it could show a notification like foobar, like when switching songs. It would show which song is playing and which artist.

2. I edit the metadata on foobar with Alt+Enter. I was wondering if DeaDBeeF could do the same, so I would have to refrain from using the mouse. I'm not sure if I'm missing something on the global hotkeys part.

3. Last, I was wondering as well if you could add something like a Date Modified/Created column, so that editing tags would be easier especially if it were new songs.

Aside from those, this is a wonderful music player and it's what I've been using for awhile. Global hotkeys is awesome and the interface is nice and simple. Good job on this!

I don't know why I can't add m4a alac files, just say "failed to add file or folder" and so.

Is there some verbose mode, that i can see some info more?

Mas acho que o ffmpeg decodifica, pois o SMPlayer toca normal aqui.

I think that ffmpeg decodes, because SMPlayer plays it normal here.

Not 100% sure but it looks like Deadbeef might use FFMPEG for ALAC. Maybe check the startup messages, especially the plugins that it’s loading, for example this is probably bad news:

trying /usr/lib/deadbeef/ffmpeg.fallback.so...
plugin not found or failed to load

(I’m currently unable to get the FFMPEG plugin working with the new deadbeef-0.5.1-3 package, despite upgrading ffmpeg-20111123-1, x264-20111030-1 and openjpeg-1.4-1 to get the FFMPEG plugin’s shared library dependencies in order. However the previous -2 package works with the previous library versions.)

I was getting in this, so I tried now the deadbeef-git available on AUR and I'm right now listening to my discos in ALAC... : D

...and now I can convert it to a decent format. There we go FLAC. /o/

This, yes THIS is a music player. It plays music OMG!!! It plays music!!!! One task do without any bug and the possibility to create playlist simply. Then the sound is excellent!!! Fuck it play music and effort were did to have a good sound quality!!! When I open it it took less than 1 seconde and I'm already sure that it would work... Can someone explain me why the other (like amarok, ituneslike music players, etc...) didn't even one time had this idea: of having a music player who can play music?

Yes I think of abandon amarok who made me sick.

After upgrading deadbeef, I seem to be unable to play any music file. Browsing through my music directory with the supported audio formats option, I see even MP3s grayed out. Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Rebooting seemed to fixed it. I think it had something to do with an upgrade to my system, I think it was ogg-vorbis.

Lovely piece of software!

Bug -or- feature...?

Scenario:
1: Track 1
2: Track 2 <- currently playing track
3: Track 3
...

- Exit DeaDBeeF
- Restart DeadBeeF
- Playback continues from [Track 2]
- On completion of [Track 2], playback restarts again from [Track 1] in album...

If one exits DB on [Track 1], and restarts DB = OK. Exiting while DB plays any other track = restart from [Track 1] in album...

If not a bug, is there a way to disable this behaviour?

It's a nice player and I used it for some time actually, but I have now fully moved over to mpd+sonata, for pretty much one reason:

DeadBeef does not seem to (in my experience) play nicely with OSS, skipping through songs would cause a pause and lag in the change (I pulled in the lts kernel to try ALSA to check this, and it was instant). I actually quite like Sonata and mpd now, still DeadBeef served me well, probably the best, what I would consider a complete music player

Hello guys,

I've been working on the abandoned deadbeef-qt plugin (https://bitbucket.org/tonn/deadbeef-qt/overview) for a few days now. So far it's still very primitive, but at least it shows something now

If anyone is interested in helping me completing this plugin, I'd appreciate extra hands. I haven't tried contacting the original author of the plugin, so I'm not sure whether I should send him a patch or host the complete source on github instead (too lazy to write an email, just want to write a few more lines of code ).
