Do they exist? Is the best option to wine EAC? I used to extract my audio CD's in Windows with EAC to uncompressed, high quality FLAC format. Not, necessary you might think but that's whole another discussion. I don't use Windows on a regular basis anymore, and would like to not depend on it only for ripping software. I read this forum thread but I'm not sure/convinced about what to select. When I start out to rip my CD collection I want to make sure I can depend on the ripping software giving good results. What do you guys use? What are my options and why should I choose it?

Rubyripper is a frontend for cdparanoia, has both CLI and GUI interfaces, supports vaious output formats and fetches metadata from freedb.

There are also plenty gui programmes around to fit in with the DE of your choice (if you have one). I use k3b to rip to flac format - works fine.

The main idea is to be sure selected frontend uses cdparanoia or cdparanoia-based lib.

morituri is a CD ripper aiming for accuracy over speed. Its features are modeled to compare with Exact Audio Copy on Windows.

I haven't checked the other options in detail, but I will say that there still, after all these years, isn't a program that does exactly what EAC does to the same degree of bit-perfect accuracy. Its Secure Mode is still the most accurate ripper available for any platform (sadly, and surprisingly). It remains the Uberstandard.

I would say: if you want secure rips, take RubyRipper. If you want it faster, take abcde. I'm using both tools, abcde with "good" CDs and RubyRipper for the scratched ones.
