Re: [ARM] Arch Linux ARM: A new unified effort from PlugApps & ArchMobile

From what I hear, there is already support for it... they mention Arch in their description of supported systems... the real question is, what level of support is there.  Just thinking of the amount of x86* software that Arch has in it's repos... I know I've personally built a lot of stuff from AUR on an ARM device running Arch, but, again... LONG list to cover... tongue

Re: [ARM] Arch Linux ARM: A new unified effort from PlugApps & ArchMobile

We have approximately 85% of the full Arch package list built and maintained daily, which translates to somewhere over 5000 individual packages.  Platforms we support are those with ARMv5te and Cortex-A series and compatible processors, split into two repos much like Arch's x86 and x86_64.  What we don't have built at this point is either stuff that we're working through getting built on ARM, stuff that is x86-specific, or packages like very large game packages that we just don't have the space to host or that don't make sense to build given the target platform.

We do support Raspberry Pi, and one of our developers has an alpha board that he's been getting support finalized on.  We already have a kernel in our repo for it, and an official root filesystem tarball will be available when we (and they) are ready.

This sounds amazing, thank you for all your effort. I am looking forward on getting a Rasberry Pi myself. And off course load it with Arch.

+1 for me :-) I already have an Eee 701SD netbook, to which Arch has given a new lease of life - a Raspberry Pi with Arch (ARM) on it would be a great little machine too...

Looking forward to more info on getting Arch running on the RP!

Re: [ARM] Arch Linux ARM: A new unified effort from PlugApps & ArchMobile

Well the RPi's are officially arriving (for some), and there have been recent updates to it's rootfs & kernel smile

In other news, in the event anyone has missed it (from our G+ announcements and tweets), Arch Linux ARM's developer team is working with Marvell in developing the SMILEplug & it's BSP.  We're enjoying this new relationship (and recognition) greatly, and look forward to possible future manufacturer collaborations!

We've added a slew of new devices recently, and hope to add the USI Topkick & TonidoPlug2 very soon to "officially support" devices.

THAT IS PHENOMINAL!!!  Looking forward to hearing more good news down the pipeline as time progresses!  Would like a  link to the official support list once it has been created (if it's not already up)!

just curious, is this the version of Arch that is being worked on for Raspberry Pi?

I think so. I've downloaded that ARM version from http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms as Arch Linux is only for x86-64 & i686.
And the Raspberry Pi website mentions it at http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

ArchLinuxARM has also Arch versions compiled for ARM for other ARM platforms like SheevaPlug & PogoPlug (hours of fun wink).

cool... I wonder if the same image can be used on the OpenPandora.  I know Wejp has been heading up the work for getting ALARM to work on that device, but I'm wondering if these are parallel projects or not.

I'm guessing parallel because I don't see OpenPandora listed on the alarm link you posted, pe7er.

I have no idea.
Maybe you could post that question in their forum in "Community-Supported Devices": http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=27

Re: [ARM] Arch Linux ARM: A new unified effort from PlugApps & ArchMobile

Just in case people were wondering, I have Arch running on my Raspberry Pi quite nicely right now ^.^

Doing boring things with it though. Just hooked up to a webcam and using it as a security camera for my room really.

GREAT to hear... I have 3 pi's I'm looking to give different purposes to.  Any pointers on getting things setup properly, bobobo1618?  "life" has been keeping me too busy to sit and do this officially..
