[Solved] Black screen after login. Loguin screen apears and text...

When I boot the system the login screen appears normally. After entering username and password, kde starts that little screen when it loads the user desktop, and then the screen goes black, with just the pointer.
In text mode, using tty2, the login is normal, as far as I can see.
I've just made a system update, but neither pacman nor arch home page said anything about manual intervention.

Thank you for any help.

I discovered that after some time with black screen kde shows some windows I had open and then crashes and return to login screen.
I' m wondering if it could be happening because I have too much programs opened, but I don't know how to close them.

You can try renaming your .kde4 directory to see if the default kde configuration works or not. Do it from the console before starting kde

I moved it to .kde4_old// The system created a new one, but the problem remains the same.

Re: [Solved] Black screen after login. Loguin screen apears and text...

Looking in the internet I've found a thread in freebsd forum that discuss the same problem.
http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=23814
The solution for him was to disable desktop efects. I've tried to compare my xorg.conf file with his, but I can not find my xorg.conf file.
Arch wiki says it can be found at /etc/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf but i can't find it.
I don't know if it is relevant, or if I'm making anything stupid.

I apreciate any kind of help.
Thanks

I'm not too familiar with KDE, but a quick google around the net makes me think that KDE's "desktop effects" are compositing effects.
You could try disabling those effects from the KDE configuration file by doing something like this, and/or you can disable X's composite extension by making a .conf file in your /etc/xorg.conf.d (doesn't matter what you name it--something indicitive of it's purpose preferably. The important part is that it has a .conf extension) with the following in it:

Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

Hope this helps.
