Yes, I see that now that I have been enlightened by Ewaller. I would suggest that yall add his bit about why the heck you have such a badaction captcha so that users don't get the wrong idea and think that you're just trying to screw with them.

I disagree. It's really better this way. The few false-negatives is worth the low number of false positives. Arch is intended for the kind of people who can find their way around the command line; anyone who can find their way around the command line will understand the captcha.

I like the registration test. In addition to keeping spam at bay, it is a bit of a reality check for new users. Despite being annoyed by it, you managed to figure it out. Anyone who cannot manage to figure it out would probably be best served by a distro with training wheels, at least to start out.

I can find my way around the commandline, but I didn't know what the freak the captcha was. I just entered it in figuring that it was the only way to get help on my desktop problem thing.

Just finished my first Arch install, so far everything looks great. Although that captcha thing was a pia for a second. I actually typed it instead of c&p and missed the final " ' ".

I just started using Arch a few days ago, and I am liking it a lot. And I must say, the Arch Wiki is simply amazing; I have already learned so much from it. I've been using linux since '06, but I was pampered by Ubuntu. I'm enjoying meticulously tweaking my desktop how I want it.

I don't know your problem is with the captcha, I showed the registration page to my Windows-user friend (he's a .NET developer), and told me that it's like 10 minutes without Linux and using Google, since one can find man pages for everything on the web. Then, he asked me what should he start with, Ubuntu or Arch. Told him that Ubuntu is a great distro for beginners, but he can learn much more with Arch. He will install Arch too

hi My name is Christopher Patrick and today is my first day using arch linux. I came from ubuntu and linuxmint. I took 2 linux classes at a local community and wanted to use arch to learn more about linux and put the knowlodge i learned from the classes to good use. Took me 2 days to get it up and running but i will be using arch for life.

Hi,

Having used Gentoo in the past a loved the control it offered (but didn't like having to compile everything and continual editing of /etc files), I decided to give Arch a try. This was prompted by Fedora's switch to gnome 3, which broke my fedora 15 install.

So here I am, lovely xfce4 and everything configured how I like it. So far so good.

Hi there,

been using linux for quite a while now (couple of years)... Very aggressively zapping through different distributions however I never found exactly what I was looking for. I always felt sort of unsatisfied (:p). Learnt about Arch in the past, loved it philosophy, tried it, realized I was to nooby -read lazy-, and quit. But now I'm back with a little more spirit and knowledge. Installed Arch a couple of weeks ago, and -after hours of experimenting with different distrubutions and window managers- it actually felt good being thrown on a simple terminal. Installed a simple window manager (xmonad) and some base apps. Admitted, it takes some time learning it, but I see that time as an investment. I think with a little commitment spend, this will be my last time a switch to another distribution.

Hello folks, I feel a little bit of a fraud as I'm only using Arch in virtualbox while I decide whether I want it to replace my current Debian Mint. It's a tiny bit scary at the moment, but then I have been pampered by Fedora and Ubuntu in the recent past. But I have used Slackware and Gentoo further back in the mists of time, so I'm not a complete noob! I have gnome-shell running in VB and haven't broken anything terminally yet, so I'm just psyching myself up for the big jump. Currently rsyncing my home directory in preparation...

Well, that was great fun, and nowhere near as difficult as I expected. In fact the configuration files were much easier to access and modify than in Ubuntu or Mint. I think I might have found my distribution of choice for the foreseeable future. I might have to change my avatar...

Hi guys! Been putzin about with installing arch the past few days and finally have a working system and all. Looks sweet, loving gnome 3.2. Started my Linux voyage on Ubuntu 2 years ago, switched to Mint Debian this summer, and finally took the plunge with arch when I got fed up with the lack of updates to lmde. Glad I did! So much to learn still...
