Wolfenstein ET on a Lenovo x120e

I have a new x120e with the AMD e-350 processor and a 5400 rpm hdd. I'm currently using the free xf86-video-ati driver on a fully updated 64 bit install of arch.

ET will launch and play just fine, but the frame rate is miserable. Even when I switched to "fastest" graphics settings and took it out of full screen.

Any recommendations on how to speed things up? Ideally I'd like to stick with the open source driver, but if the Catalyst drivers would help, I might consider switching over.

There are no real bugs or issues, as far as I can tell, I'm just surprised that my machine would struggle so much with a game that was made years ago.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

Give the Catalyst drivers a shot and see what happens. Things should speed up a lot.
