Nvidia proprietary drivers for FX 5200

Hey guys, Arch newbie here, just getting into linux- started out with Ubuntu, moved to debian, and now Arch seems like exactly the sort of linux install I LOVE.  It's so simple and light, and does exactly what you want it to do!!!!

I need some help figuring out how to get the nvidia drivers to work with my 5000 series nvidia GPU.  I have a fully working arch install and I'd like to get X working on it.  All of my Arch installs with nvidia cards newer than 6000 work perfectly but I'm having trouble with this one.

I read that the version of the driver that supports my card doesn't support the newest version of x.org.  How can I use an older x.org installation?

Thanks for any help

Connor

You don't.

What's wrong with using nouveau?

If you need an older Xorg from the get-go, you better stick with some distro that provides it. Arch is a moving target - it continually updates.

I have fx 5500 and nouveau gives a significant performance drop even in 2D, but it's usable.
ARM has old packages but I think using nouveau is the lesser of two evils https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade#ARM

Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers for FX 5200

Ok thanks guys.  That's too bad that I can't use nvidia's driver.  I have nouveau installed currently, and while it works, it isn't perfect (of course, nothing really is).

Yes I understand it's a rolling release, which is why I knew this was kind of a long shot.

Thanks for the help
