How do you enable system sounds in kde? Im a new kde user and i can't find any setting for it. I installed kde-meta on two systems, and the weird thing is that one computer has system sounds (startup sound and etc) and the other pc doesn't. Audio works flawlessly on both systems (amarok, mplayer, etc).

Go to system setting > Application and system notifications. There in player settings tab you have options for enabling it.

Yay, found the settings! Sounds are enabled by default I guess. Which makes sense why they play on my other computer. But they don't play on this computer, even though they are enabled.
I think something is wrong with the ogg files in /usr/share/sounds which kde uses for the system sounds. They won't play in mplayer or phonon (gstreamer). But if i download an ogg file from the internet, it will play in anything. I'll try copying the ogg files from the other kde install and overwrite the ones here. Hopefully it will be solved after I do that.

Don't know if you've tried it, but after a recent package update, I had to add /usr/share/sounds/ to the path for each sound to get them working again on my box.

You are a genius Once I copied over ogg files that actually weren't broken, kde still wouldn't play them. Once i added the full path, it worked. Guess I know what to expect when I Syu the other machine.
