Have got you your locales set up correctly? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Locale

worked thanx to the link Allan.
I edited /etc/locale.gen
to enable
en_US.UTF8 UTF-8
en_US ISO-8859-1
then I ran
sudo locale-gen
Thanx again

Sorry to dig up such an ancient post but I'm having a nightmare here. I've set up my locale if i run locale-gen i get this
Generating locales...
en_GB.UTF-8... done
en_GB.ISO-8859-1... done
en_US.UTF-8... done
en_US.ISO-8859-1... done
Generation complete.
However whenever I try to install from the AUR i still get the bsdtar: Failed to set default locale error. It's driving me crazy!
Thanks in advance
Craig

delboy83uk, please uncomment C locale, run locale-gen and try again. If you still have problems, please open a new thread.
