USB client side support (aka USB gadgets?)

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with setting up an Arch box as a USB client, i.e. so that for example I could plug in the box to another computer's normal USB slot, and that second computer would see (a disk on) the first box as an external hard drive, mountable using the usual USB mass storage driver.

I've done a bit of googling, and it seems that I'd need some custom hardware (i.e. a USB controller chip that behaved as a client rather than the usual server). This is apparently supported through Linux's usb_gadgets modules.

But, all the info I found out about it is from around 2005-2008.

Has anyone tried this?

Cheers,

Pete.
