That is odd that lspci returns Creative Labs: Unknown device 0007.
I have an Sb Live! and my lspci output is
00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 08)
Here are the modules I have loaded:

Did you execute alsaconf? Try alsamixer also and make sure all channels are unmuted (by default most of them are mute).[/code]

I know you've probably already verified this, but thought I'd mention it on the off chance: your user is in the audio group? /etc/group

have you tried snd-emu10k1x? it's a module for some OEM version of the SB Live and it might be worth a shot.
Offline
oh, mine isnt oem version, its a pci card

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. It's not related to pci. Try iBertus' suggestion to modprobe snd-emu10k1x.

What kernel are you using? I had similar problems with the SB Live and the 2.6.12 kernel. It worked again after rolling it back to 2.6.11.
Offline
using 2.6.12. i am not entirely sure that i have all the s/w mecanics setup correctly.

You might also want to try timidity. It should be in the repos.

The thing with getting the midi working with SB Live is a bit more complex. The reason is that sblive has a wavetable synthesizer midi, where you can load SF2 (soundfont) banks. 3 banks (2MB, 4MB, 8MB) are provided on the driver CD.
There is some software (I forget the name ATM) which can be used to load these soundfonts into the bank. I think that you need to load those every time you boot (rc.local is good idea, or rc.d script). The soundfont files are stored in RAM so bigger banks will give better quality with more RAM used.

OK, the package is awesfx and it is available in the AUR. Once installed, use sfxload <BANK> (for OSS) or asfxload <BANK> (for ALSA) to load the SF2 (these banks should be on your driver CD). I've added this info to the wiki at:
